Celebrate National Burger Day at Mooyah!

Monday just got a lot better! May 28th is National Burger Day and the team at Mooyah wants you to celebrate with them at one of their 3 Alabama locations.

The fast casual concept took off several years ago in Birmingham & Tuscaloosa. Mooyah provides a family atmosphere and largely appeals to all age groups. They have an amazing menu full of unique items. According to franchisee, Jordan Barrow, Mooyah takes lots of pride in their menu items preparing them from nothing but fresh, high quality ingredients.

Their Cheddar Bacon Burger is made from "Fresh, Never-Frozen Certified Angus Beef®, Cheddar Cheese, Applewood Smoked Bacon, Grilled Onions, BBQ Sauce, Non-GMO Potato Bun". I tried this burger along with a serving of fries and sweet potato fries.

Folks, the bun alone is something to write home about as they bake their own bread. Trust me, this bun is the business.

I also tried the Double Diablo- "2 Fresh, Never-Frozen Certified Angus Beef® Patties, Pepper Jack, Applewood Smoked Bacon, Jalapeños, Cholula, Real Mayo, Non-GMO Potato Bun."
If you like spicy, this is perfect. This burger delivers a real flavor punch! I also had a serving of their house made queso cheese dip which was a tasty companion for my fries.

Although famous for their amazing burgers they also have tasty, hand crafted shakes. These shakes are made with REAL ice cream which makes a BIG difference when you're  a milkshake snob like me. They come with a sturdy spoon and a wide milk-shake straw. You will need both. 😀

If you're looking for a place to celebrate National Burger Day, you won't be disappointed with Mooyah!
With their friendly service, family atmosphere, fresh ingredients and gluten free options, it's definitely a place that I will return to.

Please support Jordan Barrow & his family by visiting one of their locations.

No Line. No Waiting. Hand Crafted Breakfast Items Now Available At Newk's Eatery!

If you're looking for a great alternative for breakfast at a spot where there aren't long waits and massive crowds, Newk's Eatery is the place.

The only location serving breakfast right now is located at 611 Richard Arrington Boulevard South.

New menu additions are made with blue-ribbon ingredients and served from 6:30-10:30 a.m. daily
Entrees include:
  • Farmers Market Three Egg Scrambles, made with cage-free eggs, portabella mushrooms, grilled squash, zucchini, caramelized onions, tomato, spinach, shredded Gouda with basil mayo
  • Pimiento Cheese & Bacon Croissant Sandwiches, toasted with two cage-free eggs
  • Lemon Blueberry Baked French Toast, with fresh blueberries, lemon zest and thick-cut French Parisian bread
  • Oatmeal & Yogurt topped with crunchy “Muffin croutons"
  • Four muffin flavors baked daily in Newk’s own bakery.

Also added is the Newk’s Mimosa, served with a full split of Korbel California Champagne with orange juice. Perfect for brunch.

I recently stopped by for a tasting of several dishes. I sat down with the manager, Leigh to discuss their new awesome menu.

The Roasted Rosemary potatoes & Pimento Cheese Grits are two side items that are sure to wow & impress the breakfast crowd. Both are packed full of flavor and will definitely become a Newk's breakfast favorite.

Next, I tried the Lemon Blueberry Baked French Toast. The toppings were a sweet addition to the thick-cut French Parisian bread.

Additional sides I tried were the Stone Ground Grits and Fresh Fruit.

The fresh fruit bowl consists of chunks of kiwi, honey dew, blueberries, pineapples and seedless grapes.

I also had a taste of their amazing Bananas Foster French Toast.

Three slices of thick cut French Parisian bread, brown sugar, vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg with bananas foster cream cheese & sliced bananas. Dreamy! 😍

Although I'm not an egg eater, there are several hearty entrees featuring their cage free eggs accompanied by hand sliced ham, crispy bacon and sausage.

There are of course complimentary condiments in the center of the restaurant.

They serve fresh coffee daily along with a variety of breakfast beverages including mimosa's & champagne.

The prices combined with the service and spacious atmosphere will definitely make this a popular breakfast option for locals in the city.

From Manic To Merry at Vino Gallery Bar

Monday's have gone from "manic" to merry at Birmingham's Vino Gallery Bar
Located  in the popular English Village section of Mountain Brook, Vino has become one of Birmingham's popular spots for wine, food and ambience.

As a Birmingham Original, their unique patio design attracts a wide variety of people reaching far beyond Birmingham.

I recently had the pleasure of an exclusive visit to check out their infamous #MerryMonday menu. Special thanks to Alison Moncreif & the staff at Vino for accommodating me & my guest.

Every Monday, Vino owner Al Rabiee and his staff offer a slew of Merry Monday specials to help guests kick off their week.

We sampled a variety of Merry Monday libations consisting of
Maschio Prosecco
Chilton County Strawberry Martini
Barone Fini Pinot Grigio

The prices are unbelievably reasonable. Appetizers start at just $5!!! Martini's & select wines will run between $5 & 7 dollars per glass.

All of the tasting samples were high in quality. One favorite was the Chilton County Strawberry Martini.

To go along with these refreshing spirits, we were delivered a spectacular sampler of a few of the Merry Monday appetizers.

Bang Bang Cauliflower with Scallions, Roasted Sesame Seeds & Sweet Red Chili Sauce (insanely good)
Grilled Artichoke Salmon Bites with Thin Fries & Labneh
Fried Grouper Bites
Fresh Alabama Gulf Oysters

These appetizers are AMAZING! They are all available at special pricing at Vino on each & every Merry Monday.

The good news is, this is not a "happy hour" folks. These Merry Monday prices last all evening long.

Last but not least, were were surprised with a tasting of their exclusive
Vino Apple Fritters a' La Mode from their desert menu. If you are looking to sweeten the ending of your meal, this is a great choice.

Vino Gallery Bar has outstanding service, an amazing menu and with these prices, you absolutely can't go wrong.
We were so impressed with their outrageously good Bang Bang Cauliflower, we ordered a batch to take with us.

Check them out this and every single Monday starting at 4:00 p.m.

Dining Out For Life At 5 Point Public House Oyster Bar

On April 26, 2018, restaurants all over Birmingham (and the nation) participated in the annual Dining Out For Life fund raiser event benefiting AIDS outreach programs. If you didn't dine out, there is always next year. The way it works is no matter what you order, a minimum of 25% of your total tab is donated to the local fight against HIV/AIDS.

Not only do I love good causes, but eating for a good cause.... what better reason.
This year we went to 5 Point Public House Oyster Bar, a restaurant that committed to donate 35% of each ticket to the cause. We made a reservation over the phone and we were glad that we did because the place was pretty packed.

Atmosphere: Not sure if it's usually this busy, but it was pretty crowded. There is lots of table seating as well as booth & bar seating. If you are a big oyster fan,  just camp out at the oyster bar in the rear of the restaurant. That's where I will be next trip.

Service: Our experience was great with the staff. Everyone from "greet to eat" was polite & accommodating. There was nothing we asked for that we didn't get. Our server, William, provided fast and courteous service with a smile.

What we had: After seeing all of the dinner plates going to other tables, we decided to try as much as we could hold & split everything.
We started out with their delicious Spring Salad complete with pecans and a vinaigrette dressing.

From their impressive oyster menu, we tried 6 of the Rock Hole oysters on the half shell. These are actually served in a muffin pan on ice with cocktail sauce, lemon & crackers.

We also tried The Baked 6. Oysters on the half shell, baked & topped with bacon, blue cheese & their house made hot sauce. This is definitely an oyster lovers dish.

From the "small plate" menu, we sampled the Fried Oysters with a side of DELICIOUSLY DELICIOUS potato salad. These are cornmeal fried & accompanied with jalapeño relish and Sriracha aioli. Amazing flavor. Light & crispy. Definitely a favorite of the night.

A suggested dish was the PEI Mussel Fries. A generous helping of mussels cooked in a bold white wine garlic broth, with lemon aioli for dipping. The garlic Parmesan fries were outstanding. You can dip those too! 😀

Overall experience: I can't wait to go back. Although we went overboard with the oysters, there is something for everyone there. There is soup, salads, pork belly, burgers, sushi, nachos, pizza's, brisket and much, much more! The service combined with the menu will definitely draw us back. Their happy hour eats are seriously affordable too!
