Dining Out For Life At 5 Point Public House Oyster Bar

On April 26, 2018, restaurants all over Birmingham (and the nation) participated in the annual Dining Out For Life fund raiser event benefiting AIDS outreach programs. If you didn't dine out, there is always next year. The way it works is no matter what you order, a minimum of 25% of your total tab is donated to the local fight against HIV/AIDS.

Not only do I love good causes, but eating for a good cause.... what better reason.
This year we went to 5 Point Public House Oyster Bar, a restaurant that committed to donate 35% of each ticket to the cause. We made a reservation over the phone and we were glad that we did because the place was pretty packed.

Atmosphere: Not sure if it's usually this busy, but it was pretty crowded. There is lots of table seating as well as booth & bar seating. If you are a big oyster fan,  just camp out at the oyster bar in the rear of the restaurant. That's where I will be next trip.

Service: Our experience was great with the staff. Everyone from "greet to eat" was polite & accommodating. There was nothing we asked for that we didn't get. Our server, William, provided fast and courteous service with a smile.

What we had: After seeing all of the dinner plates going to other tables, we decided to try as much as we could hold & split everything.
We started out with their delicious Spring Salad complete with pecans and a vinaigrette dressing.

From their impressive oyster menu, we tried 6 of the Rock Hole oysters on the half shell. These are actually served in a muffin pan on ice with cocktail sauce, lemon & crackers.

We also tried The Baked 6. Oysters on the half shell, baked & topped with bacon, blue cheese & their house made hot sauce. This is definitely an oyster lovers dish.

From the "small plate" menu, we sampled the Fried Oysters with a side of DELICIOUSLY DELICIOUS potato salad. These are cornmeal fried & accompanied with jalapeño relish and Sriracha aioli. Amazing flavor. Light & crispy. Definitely a favorite of the night.

A suggested dish was the PEI Mussel Fries. A generous helping of mussels cooked in a bold white wine garlic broth, with lemon aioli for dipping. The garlic Parmesan fries were outstanding. You can dip those too! 😀

Overall experience: I can't wait to go back. Although we went overboard with the oysters, there is something for everyone there. There is soup, salads, pork belly, burgers, sushi, nachos, pizza's, brisket and much, much more! The service combined with the menu will definitely draw us back. Their happy hour eats are seriously affordable too!
